Background and purpose: The aim of the work was to compare interactions three newly synthesized non-toxic starch derivatives, with varied anionic non-ionic functional groups methylene blue (MB) as a model cationic drug, selection derivative highest affinity MB. Experimental approach: native potato (SN), modified via acetylation (SM1), esterification crosslinking (SM2) (SM3), evaluated in MB adsorption studies assessed by FTIR, PXRD, DSC. Key results: on SM2 SM3 matched BET isotherm model, which confirmed physisorption low-porous surface. In case SM1, took place electrostatic attraction between heterogeneous adsorbent surface adsorbate, demonstrated Freundlich plot. FTIR vibrations assigned N=C stretching bonds at 1600 cm-1 adsorbed SN SM2. most intense PXRD peaks belonged least DSC study, thermal stability ΔT assessed, lowest value (179.8 °C). Conclusion: presented best capacity, followed weakest SM1. were may reflect applications starches drug carriers. probable interaction OH- N+ revealed. amorphous struc­ture shown for SM2, correlated provided study.
